Description

This partial ceramic vessel was found at a Late Woodland site in Halifax County in the southern Piedmont. It was impressed with a fine net and notched with a fingernail along the rim for decoration. Some of the surface treatment was scraped away prior to firing. Ceramic impressions allow archaeologists to study Virginia Indian textiles that have decayed after centuries in the acidic soil.
