Description

This small ceramic vessel was found at a Late Woodland site in Halifax County in the southern Piedmont. It was impressed with coarse fabric, basketry, or a mat on the outside surface for decoration. Ceramic impressions allow archaeologists to study Virginia Indian textiles that have decayed after centuries in the acidic soil.
