Polished Turtle Shell Cup or Bowl

Description

Turtle shells were frequently used by Virginia Indians as cups or bowls. This one, found at a Late Woodland site in Halifax County in the southern Piedmont, was made into a container by carefully grinding away the portion of the skeleton that was inside the shell.
