This copper bracelet was found at an Early Historic period site in Caroline County on the Coastal Plain. The raw material was probably traded to Virginia Indians by colonists, after which it was formed into this simple but elegant ornament. Exchange of material goods was one way that people navigated relationships with colonists in the early seventeenth century.
