Description

This incised bone knife handle was manufactured by Europeans. It was traded to Virginia Indians and eventually was discarded at a site in Roanoke County in the Blue Ridge region. Virginia Indians used trade goods to navigate relationships with colonists during the early seventeenth century. This bone handle matched well with the traditional use of bone and antler for hafting knives throughout the Late Woodland period. (Photo enhanced)
