Description

These artifacts were found at an Early Historic village site in Montgomery County, southwestern Virginia. They include a stone celt and polished stone gaming discs, used as talliers or “counters” in a variety of games. Celts were polished woodworking tools that were hafted to wooden handles. Virginia Indians continued to use stone and other traditional materials as part of their lifestyles in the colonial contact period. (Photo enhanced)
