Description

These miscellaneous artifacts were found at an Early Historic period site in Caroline County on the Coastal Plain. They include pipes, a stone projectile point, and a shark tooth projectile point produced by Virginia Indians, as well as iron and ceramic trade goods obtained from colonists. Exchange of material goods was one way that people navigated relationships with colonists in the early seventeenth century. Virginia Indians manufactured and used tools made from traditional materials alongside those that they obtained from Europeans. (Photo enhanced)
