Description

These Early Historic period artifacts were found at a site in Westmoreland County on the northern Coastal Plain. They include locally produced Chesapeake Pipe bowls with rouletted animal figure designs, European glazed ceramic sherds, a net sinker, and a pointed tool. Virginia Indians manufactured and used tools made from traditional materials alongside those that they obtained from Europeans. Chesapeake Pipe bowls were produced by Indians, colonists, and/or enslaved people and were traded amongst groups. (Photo enhanced)
